Jaki Jurgec

Slovenian baritone Jaki Jurgec has appeared in more than sixty different roles, regularly performs on opera stages and festivals in Slovenia and abroad. After successfully completing his studies at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana, he continued his studies at one of the most important Italian academies, Accademia Verdiana – Carlo Bergonzi, where he graduated in 2002. As a scholarship holder of the Ljubljana Richard Wagner Society, he studied in Bayreuth and performed in both Slovenian opera houses during his studies. He has appeared in numerous concerts and opera performances throughout Italy (Parma, Busseto, Oderzo, Pordenone, Ancona, Padua). Furthermore, he performed the baritone role from Carl Orff’s stage cantata Carmina Burana in Italy, France and Malta. He has also toured in Portugal, Ukraine, Taiwan, Austria, France, Croatia, Montenegro, etc. Some of his most notable and signature roles in recent years include Ezio (Attila), Figaro (The Barber of Seville), Silvio (I Pagliacci), Don Alfonso (Così fan tutte), Sharpless (Madama Butterfly), Falke and Frank (Die Fledermaus), Baron Douphol and Giorgio Germont (La Traviata), Albert (Werther), Mercutio (Romeo and Juliet), Melitone (La forza del destino), Schaunard and Marcello (La Bohème), Dulcamara (L’elisir d’amore), Dapertutto, Lindorf, Coppélius, Dr. Miracle (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Count Tomsky (The Queen of Spades), Amonasro (Aida), etc. He also gave a concert of operetta arias in the famous Austrian arena of Finkenstein Castle. He has directed several gala concerts at the Giuseppe di Stefano Festival in Oderz and was also assistant director of Verdi’s Rigoletto. He directed Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro for the Tokyo Play Opera. He has received several awards for his artistic achievements, including the Glazer Charter. His most recent stage creations include the title role of Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, and other staple baritone roles, such as Donner (Das Rheingold), Carlo Gérard (Andrea Chénier), Paolo Albiani (Simon Boccanegra) and Dr. Falke (Die Fledermaus). In October 2020, he made his debut as Johannes in the Slovenian opera Marpurgs and in the same season (2020/2021) he also appeared as Sulpice in Donizetti’s comic opera La fille du régiment.
