The internationally acclaimed conductor Gianna Fratta decided at the age of 9 to dedicate her life to conducting. After graduating in law, the remarkably talented conductor began and completed additional studies in piano, composition, choral and orchestral conducting.

Gianna has been a guest conductor with leading orchestras around the world, including the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, the Macao Orchestra, the Royal Academy Symphony Orchestra, the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Russian Federation, the Orchestre National d’Île-de-France and the Montevideo Philharmonic Orchestra. Recent performances have taken Gianna to major theatres around the world, including Carnegie Hall (New York), Teatro Coliseo (Buenos Aires), Teatro Solis (Montevideo), Seoul Art Centre (Seoul), Opera Theatre (Hong Kong), Smetana Hall (Prague) and Teatro Municipal (São Paolo), where she has collaborated with internationally renowned artists.

In her native Italy, she has conducted the most important orchestras and ensembles, including the Rai Orchestra Turin, the Orchestra del Teatro dell’Opera (Roma), the Orchestra Sinfonica of Milano, the Toscanini Orchestra (Parma), the Orchestra Regionale Toscana (Florence), the Teatro Petruzzelli Orchestra (Bari), the Sicilian Symphony Orchestra (Palermo) and Pomeriggi Musicali (Milan), to name but a few. A passionate admirer of the symphonic repertoire, Gianna has an extensive repertoire and has conducted the most important works of the Romantic period and the 20th century during her career.

Among the soloists she has worked with are Martha Argerich, Gidon Kremer, Sergei Krylov, Raina Kabaiwanska and Renato Bruson. Her operatic activity includes productions such as Nabucco (directed by Pierluigi Pizzi), Madama Butterfly (directed by Daniele Abbado), La fanciulla del West (directed. by Renzo Giacchieri), Norma, Tosca, I pagliacci, Cavalleria rusticana, Falstaff, Il tabarro, Suor Angelica, Il segreto di Susana, Gianni Schicchi, Aida, Carmen, L’elisir d’amore, Turandot, La traviata, The Magic Flute, The Marriage of Figaro, The Barber of Seville, Cinderella and Puccini’s Il trittico (directed by Daniele Abbado), the latter of which won the award for best Korean opera production at the Seoul Art Centre. In the 2023/2024 season, Gianna will appear in various symphonic concerts and open two prestigious Italian opera houses: at the Fondazione Arena di Verona she will conduct Il parlatore eterno by Ponchielli, combined on the same evening with Il tabarro by Puccini, and at the Teatro Lirico G. Verdi of Trieste she will conduct a new production of Manon Lescaut. Passionate about the importance of music education in today’s society, Fratta has taught at Sungshin Women’s University in Seoul, Korea, and is currently Chair of Composition at the Conservatory of Music in Foggia. Over the years, Fratta has released recordings and DVDs on labels such as Brilliant Classics, Velut Luna, Bongiovanni, Amadeus, Classica HD, Sony Classical and Arcana.
